Counting Down to the Port Alfred Easter Festival 2026, as Waves, Music and Water Safety Take Shape
With the calendar quietly ticking down, the build-up to the Port Alfred Easter Festival on 3-6 April 2026 is already starting to hum. Two months out, there is that familiar sense of anticipation that settles over the town like the start of the wind swinging to the west ahead of a fresh swell.
Easter in Port Alfred has become a confluence of surf, music, families, competitors, and spectators, all drawn to one stretch of coastline for a few high-energy multi-sport and cultural days that have earned a prominence well beyond the Eastern Cape.
NSRI Station 11
At the heart of the festival’s surf programme is the calm, professional presence of NSRI Station 11, Port Alfred. While the spectators tend to focus on contest vests, heats, and results at the surf comps, the NSRI’s role is both critical and constant. Through rapid response, vigilant observation, and on-the-spot intervention when needed, the station provides crucial water and theatre safety for the two flagship surf events. This dedication ensures that competitors, officials, and spectators can enjoy the action at East Beach with confidence.

This community work includes oversight for the Rip Curl GromSearch, presented by the Royal St Andrews Hotel, as well as the Royal St Andrews Hotel Rip Curl Cup, a WSL QS event and the first time the WSL has returned to Port Alfred since 2019. The NSRI’s constant enthusiasm, from pre-event checks, pier observation points and through vigilant in-water patrols, helps to keep the events running smoothly, allowing organisers and surfers to focus on the competition.
Bands Innie Bush
Beyond the surf zone, the NSRI’s impact is visible in their community role. A portion of funds from the Bands Innie Bush music festival benefits the NSRI, thus helping this vibrant volunteer organisation to sustain its resources and training. This connection demonstrates how festival support directly strengthens the NSRI’s community trust and cooperation. Find out more about Station 11 on Facebook.

Looking ahead, the 2026 festival promises to be a landmark event. The NSRI’s crucial presence allows everyone to focus fully on quality waves, great surfing, lively music, and the unmistakable holiday energy that makes the Port Alfred Easter Festival unmissable.
