The Easter Species Spectacular 2026 is lining up as one of the standout fishing events on the Eastern Cape calendar, returning to the Port Alfred River & Ski-Boat Club from 3 to 5 April 2026.

For three days, anglers will take to the water in pursuit of multiple target species, competitive bragging rights and some serious prizes, all set against the rugged beauty of our Port Alfred coastline.

Building on a Strong 2025

Last year’s event delivered exactly what the competition is known for. Seventeen boats launched into challenging, cold-water conditions following an Easterly wind, yet the catches still impressed.

Highlights included Deon Botha’s 6.24kg kob, Anton van Aardt’s 4.03kg hake, Tom Cawood’s 1.87kg Roman and Jonathan Riddin’s 2.76kg dageraat. Zeeman finished as top boat, with Botha taking the top angler title. A fair-sized tuna also claimed a special R10 000 game fish prize, adding extra excitement to the weekend.

Beyond the weigh-ins, the real story was the camaraderie. The Species Spectacular has built a reputation for celebrating variety, sportsmanship and sustainable angling practices, with competitors targeting a structured list of species rather than chasing a single headline fish.

This year promises more of the same competitive spirit, strong local support and a welcoming atmosphere for both seasoned skippers and weekend anglers.
