A Global Movement With a Small-Town Heart
Port Alfred parkrun forms part of a worldwide initiative that began in 2004 in London as a simple 5km time trial between friends. From those modest beginnings, parkrun has grown into an international community movement operating in more than 20 countries. The formula has remained unchanged: free, timed, welcoming, and open to all.
The Local Rhythm
In Port Alfred, parkrun takes place every Saturday at 8am on Causeway Street. Meet at the library and two laps along the river bank is the 5 km run/walk.It is a free weekly 5km timed walk or run that brings together seasoned runners, first-timers, families, visitors, and regulars who enjoy starting the weekend on their feet.
During the Port Alfred Easter Festival, the parkrun on Saturday 4 April 2026 at 8am will add to the weekend’s momentum. Before the surf contests, markets, and music gather pace, there is a simple start line and a community moving together.
What It Costs
Nothing. parkrun is completely free. Participants register once online and receive a personal barcode. Bring a scannable copy each week, as results can only be recorded with a valid barcode.
Your Pace, Your Run
There is no qualifying time and no pressure. Whether you run competitively, jog comfortably, or walk the course, you are equally part of the event. The focus remains on participation and enjoyment.
Safeguarding
parkrun is committed to safeguarding children and adults at risk. Clear policies and reporting procedures are in place to ensure a safe, inclusive environment for everyone.
In a town like Port Alfred, parkrun becomes more than a weekly event. It becomes a steady, positive gathering point that quietly anchors the weekend. To contact the local parkrun team portalfred@parkrun.com
