Everything You Need To Know About The Species Spectacular Fishing Comp

Hosted by the Port Alfred River and Ski Boat Club, the Species Spectacular forms part of the inaugural Port Alfred Easter Festival. The event promises exciting angling, camaraderie and the chance to reel in fantastic prizes. Here’s all you need to know to make sure you don’t miss out on the action:

1. Registration Details: Mark your calendars for the registration day, March 28, 2024, between 15:00 and 17:00 at the Port Alfred River and Ski Boat Club. If you prefer to secure your spot in advance, contact JJ French at 0785998573. Don’t miss the chance to be part of this unforgettable event!

2. Skippers Briefing: A crucial part of the competition, the skippers briefing is COMPULSORY and will be held at the Port Alfred River and Ski Boat Club on March 28, 2024, at 18:00. Please note that no grievances will be entertained by the convenor if a skipper is absent. Ensure you attend to receive vital information for a safe and fair competition.

3. Competition Dates: The fishing competition will occur from March 29 to March 31, 2024, with participants aiming for their best day out of the three. Safety officers (Joe Lee, James Thomson, JJ French, Anton van Aardt) will evaluate sea conditions each morning to determine the competition day. Stay tuned for updates, and get ready for some fierce competition on the water.

4. Weigh-In Details: Head to PARSC for the weigh-in, with scales opening at 14:00. Make sure your fish are at the scale or in the queue by 14:00, as there will be NO EXTRA TIME. Remember that fish not in the queue by the specified time will result in immediate disqualification. Plan accordingly to maximise your chances of claiming victory!

5. Launching Information: Launching is allowed only from the Kowie River mouth, starting at 05:00. Familiarise yourself with the designated launching area and prepare for an early morning adventure on the water.

6. Protected Species: Certain species will not count towards the competition to promote responsible fishing and conservation efforts. These include Copper Steenbras, Black Mussel Cracker, Yellowbelly Rockod, Seventy Fours, and Sharks. Let’s cooperate to protect these endangered species and sustain our fish stocks for future generations.

7. Prize-Giving Ceremony: The much-anticipated prize-giving ceremony will take place at PARSC at 18:00 on the day of fishing. Join us to celebrate the winners, share stories, and enjoy a fantastic conclusion to an unforgettable fishing competition.

Entry Fee and Inclusions: Participation in the Port Alfred Fishing Competition requires an R350 entrance fee, which includes a braai pack, salad, and rolls for each angler. Additional braai packs will be available at the bar. The competition is open to all ski-boats and jet skis with a valid COF and anglers with a valid fishing permit.
