Both events were presented by the Royal St Andrews Hotel and supported by Sea Harvest.

PAEF: How was your easter weekend in Port Alfred?

LL: My weekend in Port Alfred was hectic and exciting, to say the least.

What did the wins do for you mentally? Winning U 16 Premier in the GromSearch and winning the Rip Curl Cup must make you feel good.

I started the year badly, so winning this weekend put me in a very good mental state, as I am off To the ISA World Juniors in less than a month.

Who were your top three surfers in the Cup?

Luc Lepront Tide-Lee Ireland and Luke van Wyk were the standouts.

Who did you spot in the grom divisions who might be

up and coming?

I spotted Slade shooter Ripping in both under 12 and under 14 age groups

It must be lekker to make a bank. How much did you make all in, and will you put it towards travel?

I don’t know how much I made; R20k for the Rip Curl Cup was so good, but I’m putting it towards travelling to ISA Worlds.

What is your plan for the immediate future?

My plan for the near future is to do the best that I can in the ISA Worlds.

What advice would you give to our grom surfers who want to go further with their surfing careers?

In surfing, you have your ups and downs, but you have to block out all the negativity, do your best and have lots of fun.

What music gets you amped before a heat?

My techno remixes.

Do you have a pre-heat ritual?

Yes, I blast music in my ears while Focusing on the waves.

Is there anything else you want to say about the Rip Curl events and the Port Alfred Easter Festival?

I’ve been participating in many events in Port Alfred, and this Rip Curl event was by far my favourite since the Port Alfred Easter Festival was going on all weekend. I also entered the Sports n All 1 Km Marina Open Swim at the festival with a crew of other competitive surfers, which was great fun.
