Edge Finance Easter Pairs Bowls Tournament

What a weekend of bowls for the Edge Finance Easter Pairs Bowls Tournament! What a lot of fun, and what a lot of planning and behind-the-scenes work.

This happened when the Edge Financial Services-sponsored Easter tournament was played this past Saturday and Sunday.

Eleven games of 10 ends were played, seven on Saturday and four on Sunday. The semi-final and final were followed by the prize-giving.

Time Limit

Each game had a time limit, while the leads became skips and the skips leads on the fifth and sixth ends.

Of this club’s teams, Hein Strombeck and Megan Kriel, Jaco and Jo-Anne van Rensburg, both finished second in their respective sections. This gave them both a chance to reach the final when they played the two section winners.

In the one semi-final, Hein and Megan beat the Port Elizabeth team skipped by Werries Pienaar. Thereafter, Jaco and Jo-Anne were beaten by Kowie’s Denney Richardson and Lester Scriven.

Additionally, playing for third and fourth spot, Jaco and his wife were outplayed by Pienaar. In the final, Denney and Lester fought their way back to be crowned the 2025 champions.

Well done to all who entered and to those who made the play-offs and final.

Grumpy Enslin

At the prize giving conducted by men’s club captain Grumpy Enslin, numerous session prizes were won, while there were auctions.

Ladies’ club captain Claire Bell took charge of organising the hamper winners, one of whom was a club member, Ant Bowdler.

In closing, Grumpy thanked Edge for their generous sponsorship, Jaco for the excellent greens, Hein for all his help in planning the event, and all those who worked in the kitchen and bar and helped set up the many rinks.

Also, this scribe would like to thank Grumpy on behalf of all club members for his excellent planning and organisation of the event.
