Waves Went Off for West Beach Warfare
by Clinton Millard
West Beach delivered the goods for the Port Alfred Bodyboarding Challenge, pumping out clean four to six-foot bombs that set the stage for an epic day of action. The conditions were perfect, and the crowd was treated to non-stop thrills from the opening heat to the final siren.
The final came down to four competitors—three local legends and one determined visitor from PE. Local icon Craig, set the tone early with a bomb of an opening wave. John followed suit, slicing through clean walls and throwing down some stylish combos and solid rides.
But the real showdown came between Ashley and Luke. Ashley scored the longest, cleanest barrel of the day, then backed it up with his signature drop-knee style—deep bottom turns and heavy carves off the top lips. Luke had a slow start, but came alive in the final minutes. He sealed the deal with two massive waves—one featuring a clean ARS right off the end section and another with a huge backflip landing flat and clean.
When it was all said and done, the level of riding and camaraderie was unmatched. In true West Beach spirit, the four finalists decided to split the prizes evenly. Everyone walked away a winner.
With gnarly wipeouts, close-out barrels, and flawless lines, West Beach Warfare was one for the books. An unforgettable day of surf, stoke, and community.
