About The Port Alfred Bowls and Croquet Club
The Port Alfred Bowling and Croquet Club (PABCC) remains a central part of the sporting and social fabric of Port Alfred. The Croquet section dates back to 1985, when it was first established on the old Hospital grounds. What began as a modest initiative driven by enthusiasm for the sport gradually evolved into a structured and competitive club environment. In April 1989, with some historical records suggesting 1991, the Croquet Club formally merged with the Port Alfred Bowling Club. This consolidation created the Port Alfred Bowling and Croquet Club as it operates today. Although the precise founding date of the original Bowling Club is no longer documented, it stands as one of the area’s longstanding sporting institutions and continues to play an important role in community life.
